Classic Rock
Growing up, I listened to a lot of classic rock, which my dad enjoys, from around the time period of the 80s. This taste for music makes me add more energy into each of my compositions. Listening to these songs on the radio while cruising down the highway always seems to make me excited for whatever comes next. Classic Rock developed my senses for beats and rhythms as well as unique styles as well. Each band and artist has their own unique style, and I learned that making my own unique style of music is important to making any of my compositions sound fresh. To the right is one of mine and my dad's favorite rock songs, Hotel California by the Eagles. The Eagles showed me how even within an era of more heavier music, the Eagles are able to maintain a more emotional and lyrical style of music. |

Classical Music
|
Over time, I have come to appreciate Classical music over time, especially as I began to play piano more. Particularly, I am inspired by music composed by Chopin and Beethoven. Both composers are able to convey very powerful emotions in whatever mood that they feel necessary.
For specific pieces, one of my favorite pieces composed by Chopin is Fantasie-Impromptu Op.66 as it is able to shift it's mood very quickly, yet smoothly. It has taught me the variety of different moods within a piece can be quite intriguing to listen to. Classical Music has taught me the foundations of musical structure and have inspired me to use many traditional/older instruments within my compositions such as normal piano chords and violin tracks. |
Animated Film Music
Orchestral Music written for various films have inspired me to find more emotion throughout my music. The music in each portion of the movie reflect the current mood of the scene. This inspired me to learn how to manipulate keys, rhythms, and various musical intervals in order to convey the feelings of happiness, sorrow, and anger. One particular modern Japanese composer, Joe Hisaishi, is one of the best at conveying messages through pure instrumental music. Even without lyrics, he is able to easily convey the feeling of a particular scene. He inspired me to not just play or listen to music, but to truly feel the meaning of the music I make. |
